Elfriede Jelinek - Language Unleashed

Child prodigy, scandalous author, feminist, fashion lover, communist, linguistic terrorist, enfant terrible, brilliant, vulnerable artist - for the very first time, the story of the life and work of the incomparable Elfriede Jelinek, the first Austrian writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, is told in a feature film.

The documentary ELFRIEDE JELINEK - LANGUAGE UNLEASHED approaches this artist, who only appears unapproachable at first glance, and shows the reclusive author as a person in all her facets with film and sound clips published for the first time, many unknown interview passages and some newly recorded off-screen texts. The result is a multi-layered, associative and sensual film portrait that embraces contradictions and focuses on her creative use of language.

Elfriede Jelinek - Language Unleashed" by Claudia Müller won the FIPRESCI Prize 2022. This year's jury of the international critics' association was made up of Austrian Barbara Gasser, Turkish journalist Engin Ertan and Brazilian Enoe Lopes Pontes. They explained their decision as follows: "The FIPRESCI jury of the 39th Munich Film Festival has decided to award a film for its outstanding editing technique that brings the cinema audience closer to the feelings of a controversial artist. The director has a unique artistic vision that harmonizes with the protagonist. Her film is a prime example of the convergence of two different artistic disciplines: Film and literature. The FIPRESCI Award goes to a contemporary documentary: "Elfriede Jelinek - Language Unleashed" by Claudia Müller.
